The ten levels

Every level is a writer you could plausibly be. You climb by writing, not by paying or waiting — and each one is aiming at a real place on the exam scales, whichever exam is in front of you.

About the exam alignment

The bridge is the CEFR, because every board publishes against it: IELTS aligns its bands to CEFR levels, the TOEFL 1.0–6.0 scale in use from 2026 is CEFR-aligned by design, and the Cambridge exams are named after the CEFR level they certify — A2 Key, B1 Preliminary, B2 First, and up. That last column therefore needs no interpretation at all. IELTS states plainly that “it is not possible to make one-to-one comparisons” between a test score and a framework, so treat the columns above as what a level is aiming at — never as a score you have been awarded. The only score that counts is the one the exam gives you.
